“Some things are just meant to be with you”: Rohit Sharma on his century celebration

Veteran Indian star Rohit Sharma strengthened his case ahead of the ODI World Cup 2027 after cracking a splendid century in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday. Rohit registered his century in 72 balls and had a brief burst of emotion. However, his celebratory hop and air punch were quite noticeable, and when he was asked about the celebration, Rohit said that he preferred to keep some moments to himself.
“Yeah, I will keep that celebration for myself. Ah, it's for me; it's for me. Some things are just meant to be with you. It's not to be shared. So, yeah, that was for me,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
India, chasing a target of 406, got off to a flying start, overhauling the target in 43.3 overs. That was also India’s highest successful ODI chase and made them the only second side, after South Africa, to successfully pursue a target above 400 in the format. Gill was the architect of the chase, firing a sensational 223 off 133 balls. His innings featured 26 boundaries and eight sixes. On the other hand, Rohit played a key role, smashing 101 in 75 balls, featuring 10 fours and six sixes.
“The wicket was good; we just wanted to continue to keep batting. We were not thinking too much about the scoreboard, to be honest. We were just trying to play according to the merit of the ball. We kept stitch the partnership. Gill was fantastic on the other side, very much in control of his batting throughout the innings. To see him stay not out till the end was fantastic to see as well,” Rohit said.
