Mumbai fast bowler Tushar Deshpande delivered a memorable performance against Chandigarh, taking a hat-trick and five wickets for just 17 runs to put Mumbai in a strong position in their Ranji Trophy match. The performance was even more special as Deshpande was playing his 50th first-class match. Deshpande's brilliant bowling helped Mumbai bowl out Chandigarh and strengthen their chances of securing a big victory. He took five wickets for 17 runs, including a hat-trick, and then picked up another wicket in the only over he bowled in Chandigarh's second innings. His hat-trick included the wickets of Arjun Azad, Shivam Bhambri and Dipender Kush, leaving Chandigarh struggling against Mumbai's bowling attack. Deshpande had also contributed with the bat, scoring a useful 44 runs while batting at No. 9. With Mumbai holding a 351-run lead and having already taken one wicket in Chandigarh's second innings, the team is in a commanding position. The greenish pitch has offered assistance to the bowlers, and Deshpande has made the most of the conditions.

Speaking about his performance and his approach to the game, Deshpande said that his main focus was on bowling in the right areas rather than worrying about selection. "My only focus was to bowl as many balls as possible in the right areas, and it paid dividends today," Deshpande said. The fast bowler also spoke about his ambition to represent India in Test cricket. He had hoped to be selected for the India A team touring New Zealand, but his name was not included. "There is always motivation to play Test cricket for India, no matter whether I am selected for the A-team shadow tour or not. I thought about it for a day, but I have always said that I want to chase performance, not selection," he said. Deshpande also stressed that Mumbai must maintain their intensity and avoid becoming complacent despite their strong position. "I would say that if we can put on another show like we did in the first innings and maintain the intensity whenever I bowl, I'll be even happier," he said. "We have just enforced the follow-on, but we have to come back tomorrow, bowl in the right areas and finish the job as early as possible."

The hat-trick also placed Deshpande among a select group of Mumbai bowlers to achieve the feat in the Ranji Trophy. He became the sixth Mumbai bowler to take a hat-trick in the competition, joining Jehangir Khot, Umesh Kulkarni, Abdul Ismail, Royston Dias and Shardul Thakur. His performance has given Mumbai a major advantage and further strengthened his case through consistent performances, as he continues to pursue his dream of playing Test cricket for India.
