Shubman Gill wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award for the fifth time

India captain Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month after delivering outstanding performances against the West Indies. With this achievement, Gill has won the prestigious monthly award for the fifth time in his career, adding another milestone to his growing list of accomplishments. The 27-year-old previously won the award for January and September 2023, followed by February and July 2025. His latest recognition comes after an impressive run of performances that highlighted his ability to score big runs and perform under pressure.
Gill expressed his happiness at receiving the award for the fifth time and thanked the selection panel for recognising his performances. He said winning the ICC Player of the Month award again felt great and expressed his gratitude for the honour. One of Gill’s standout performances came in the first ODI against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, where he scored an impressive 110 runs. He followed that performance with a remarkable 223-run innings off 133 balls, helping his team chase down a massive target of 406 runs with eight wickets remaining and 39 balls to spare. Speaking about the successful run chase, Gill said that scoring those runs was extremely satisfying. He added that being part of a successful chase in front of home fans made the achievement even more special, as their support always gives the team extra energy.
The latest awards also marked a special achievement for Indian cricket, as Indian players won both the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month honours for the same month. This was the fifth time players from the same country had achieved this distinction. India had previously accomplished the feat twice, with Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana winning the respective awards in June 2024, followed by Abhishek Sharma and Mandhana in September 2025. The men’s shortlist also included India’s Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, while Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and Indian left-arm spinner Sree Charani were among the contenders in the women’s category.
