Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has applied for the vacant senior national selector's post. His application comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opted not to extend Ajit Agarkar's contract, rendering the position open.

"Yes, I have applied for the job," Jaffer confirmed to PTI.

Jaffer has had an impressive playing career, where he represented India in 31 Test matches between 2000 and 2008. He notched up 1,944 runs at an average of 34.10, registering five centuries. Two of his most notable achievements were double centuries against the West Indies and Pakistan. However, Jaffer's career in white-ball cricket was very short, as he featured in only two ODIs in 2006.

Jaffer’s record in first-class cricket is very impressive, as he remains the leading run-scorer in Ranji Trophy history and also holds the record for the highest number of centuries in domestic cricket. In 260 first-class matches, Jaffer scored 19,410 runs at an average of 50.68. He also has a tally of 57 hundred.
