Ayush Badoni slams second consecutive Century as Delhi reach 309/5 against Jharkhand

Delhi captain Ayush Badoni continued his impressive run of form with his second consecutive century, guiding his side to 309/5 on the opening day of their Group C Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand in Ranchi on Monday. After opting to bat first, Delhi found themselves in trouble at 181/5 before Badoni and all-rounder Sumit Mathur stitched together an unbeaten 124-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Badoni was batting on 106, having struck 11 boundaries and two sixes, while Mathur contributed an unbeaten 50 off 119 deliveries.
Badoni showcased excellent footwork and composure, taking on both the pace and spin attacks while ensuring Delhi recovered from their middle-order collapse. His latest century follows scores of 85 and 217 in his previous two innings, further strengthening his case for national selection after missing out on the India A squad for the New Zealand tour. Earlier, Priyansh Arya scored 39 and Sanat Sangwan made 37, while Yash Dhull contributed 29. However, Delhi lost wickets at regular intervals before Badoni and Mathur steadied the innings. Off-spinner Pratyush Singh was Jharkhand's most effective bowler, finishing with figures of 2/63 from 24 overs.
The partnership between Badoni and Mathur ensured Delhi ended the opening day in a commanding position, with the visitors looking to build an even bigger total on Day 2. Badoni's remarkable consistency has once again drawn attention to his potential for higher honours, as he continues to deliver strong performances in domestic cricket. Jharkhand, meanwhile, will need to strike early when play resumes to prevent Delhi from moving towards the 400-run mark. With Badoni firmly set at the crease, the second day promises to be crucial in determining the direction of the contest.
