Sri Lanka have been handed a crushing blow, with their opener Pathum Nissanka being ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan as he continues his recovery from a left hamstring injury. Nissanka had earlier been named in a 15-man squad, but his availability was subject to fitness clearance, and now with him being unable to get fit in time, Sri Lanka have brought in Lahiru Udara as his replacement for the series.

"Pathum Nissanka will miss the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, as he is yet to recover from his left hamstring injury. The Cricket Selection Committee has named Lahiru Udara as his replacement. Udara is already in Pakistan as part of Sri Lanka’s ODI squad," SLC said in a statement.

Nissanka copped the injury during Sri Lanka’s white-ball tour of England and was later ruled out of the T20Is. Moreover, he was also part of Sri Lanka’s squad for the ongoing ODI tri-series in Pakistan however he failed to pass the fitness Test due to which he was ruled out of the series. The two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will begin on November 9 in Rawalpindi.
