Oman secure automatic qualification for World Cup 2027 qualifiers

Oman have booked their place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifier after securing a top-four finish in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings for the 2024–2026 cycle. Their fourth-place position ensured automatic qualification, despite going down against the UAE in the final match of the World Cup League 2 in Dubai.
Heading into the match, Oman knew that they needed a win or a respectable defeat to maintain an edge over Namibia on net run rate. After being put into bat, the UAE faced an early setback as Oman’s Shakeel Ahmed made a big impact by taking three crucial wickets early on.
Still, UAE following knocks from Rahul Chopra (47), Adeeb Usmani (47) and Basil Hameed (43), managed to post 226/8 in 20 overs. Adeeb Usmani and Rahul Chopra stitched a valuable 65-run partnership to make things easier for the UAE.
Chasing a target of 227, Oman endured a disappointing start, losing their top three batters pretty early. However, Hammad Mirza and Imran Ali brought the things under control, firing knocks of 29 and 65, respectively, to power the side to 184/9 in 50 overs.
