There has been mounting discussion on the future of Hardik Pandya with Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with speculation about a potential player trade also taking a centre stage.

Reports have also been doing rounds about Punjab Kings being involved in talks with Mumbai Indians to strike a deal to secure the services of a highly experienced all-rounder. Amid this growing talk, Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu has shared his perspective on Pandya’s situation, asserting that the criticism over his appointment as captain may have taken a toll on his position within the franchise. The former CSK batter also believed that Pandya might have felt cornered by the relentless criticism.

Hardik was named Mumbai Indians’ captain ahead of IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma. However, his captaincy has been under massive scrutiny, with the team struggling to get fruitful results.

"In Mumbai, I just thought that Hardik felt as if he was cornered. And once you feel you're cornered, you're always looking over your shoulder. Once that happens in a dressing room, you tend to come out in ways that you wouldn't want to. A lot of things didn't go well for Hardik. It might be Hardik's fault as well as something else,” Rayudu said during a discussion on Cricbuzz.

Rayudu advised Pandya to relinquish captaincy if he continued to be with Mumbai Indians so that he could focus on his game.

"From now on, if he wants to stay at MI, I don't think he should be the captain. He should just play his game, enjoy his time, and be a match-winner for MI. But if he goes out, definitely not a captain again, at least for one season," he added.
