Australia have appointed former batter Michael Hussey as a coaching consultant for the 2027 Ashes and ODI World Cup, while also naming him as a T20 advisor for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and T20 World Cup.

Hussey has previously worked with Australia's coaching staff under head coach Andrew McDonald on short-term assignments, mainly as a batting consultant. However, his other commitments with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Welsh Fire in The Hundred limited his availability.

His new role will begin with Australia's upcoming T20I series against England, followed by preparations for the New Zealand Test series in Perth. Hussey will also focus on strengthening Australia's T20 setup ahead of the major tournaments in 2028.

"I am extremely excited about being a part of the team in a more formal and meaningful role in the coming years," Hussey said.

"This team has achieved so much in recent times, to which I hope I can add value to the coaching and playing groups ahead of what will be an exciting and challenging period."

Head coach Andrew McDonald also welcomed the appointment, highlighting Hussey's experience across different formats and competitions. Australia's head of national teams, Ben Oliver, said Hussey would provide additional T20 support as the team prepares for the 2028 events.

Hussey was previously part of England's coaching group that won the 2022 T20 World Cup under Matthew Mott. His experience in franchise cricket and international cricket is expected to strengthen Australia's preparations for the upcoming challenges.
