IND-W vs ENG-W 1st T20I: Danni Wyatt and Nat Sciver-Brunt shine in England’s lead-taking win

England Women registered an encouraging win over host India Women in the 1st T20I match of the three-match series on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium to take the 1-0 lead in the series. Danni Wyatt and Nat Sciver-Brunt stepped up in the batting department with their knocks of (75) and (77) respectively to drive the side to a huge total of (197) in (20) overs after losing (6) wickets. England’s other batters Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey lost their wickets cheaply with their scores of (1) and (0) respectively. Heather Knight too failed after scoring only (6) runs. India’s Renuka Singh and Shreyanka Patil returned with three and two wickets respectively. Saika Ishaque claimed one wicket. In their chase of the target, opener Shafali Verma played a great knock with her score of (52) runs but she lacked the backing from Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues who both only scored (6) and (4) runs respectively. In the middle, Harmanpreet Kaur and and Richa Ghosh scored (26) and (21) runs respectively as India Women could only put out (159) from their (20) overs after losing (6) wickets. For England, Sophie Ecclestone claimed three wickets while Nat Sciver-Brunt, Freya Kemp and Sarah Glenn returned with one wicket each.
