In a thrilling encounter at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka secured a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the third ODI to complete a series sweep. The victory not only showcased Sri Lanka's dominance but also underscored their potential comeback after suffering badly at the ODI World Cup 2023.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Afghanistan had a promising start with their opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 48 runs. In the middle, Rahman Shah scored 65 runs, providing a solid foundation to the team. However Afghanistan struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack. Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai brought up his half-century to push the side to 266 as they were bowled out in (48.2) overs.

Chasing a target, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start, with Pathum Nissanka and Awishka Fernando hammering (118) and (91) respectively. The duo showcased remarkable composure and skill, steering the team in the winning direction. In the middle-order, Kusal Mendis scored 40 runs to take the team home to complete the series whitewash.

As for Afghanistan, they displayed glimpses of their potential throughout the series, showcasing their talent and determination on the international stage. Despite falling short in the ODI series, Afghanistan's spirited performances serve as a testament to their rapid development and growing stature in world cricket.
