Despite riding a wave of success from their victory against Mumbai Indians in their first game, Gujarat Titans failed to overcome powerhouse Chennai Super Kings in their second game on Tuesday at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Gujarat Titans suffered a big 63-run loss, failing to chase down the total of (206) set by Chennai Super Kings.

Gujarat Titans’ brilliant batting attack remained mute against a pace-dominated attack from Chennai Super Kings. Sai Sudharsan was Gujarat Titans’ top-scoring batter, hitting (37) off (31).

This season Gujarat Titans’ pace bowling attack is being led by Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma as they miss the availability of experienced Mohammed Shami, Shami was ruled out of the IPL 2024 following the surgery on his ankle.

Mohit Sharma, who has bowled brilliantly in the last two games, agreed with the notion that Shami is irrreplacable with the kind of excellence he brings to the field. GT also have services of Australian pacer Spencer Johnson who is a novice to IPL. However, he had a rewarding debut against RCB, picking up two crucial wickets, but second game didn’t see him make enough contribution.

“Any team is bound to miss a bowler like Shami, and you can’t replace him with anyone. But injuries are uncontrollable, and you must see how to move ahead with it,” said Mohit Sharma during the post-match press conference.

“As far as Gujarat is concerned, it’s the first year for Spencer (Johnson) and Azmatullah (Omarzai). They haven’t played much cricket yet. Therefore, we must be patient with them and not become too result-oriented," noted Sharma.

“We must not bother about the runs leaked or the result of the contest, but how successful we are with our plans and how we are working on it backstage. These things would come in handy in the second half (of the event),” said Sharma.
