ENG vs WI 2nd Test day 1: England gear up to play West Indies post-Anderson era

England are set to take on West Indies in the second Test of their ongoing three-match series. The second match will begin from Thursday at Trent Bridge. England are brimmed with confidence after a dominating performance in the first Test, where they triumphed by an innings and 114 runs. This decisive victory has given England 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
However, the second Test holds additional significance for England as it marks their first match following the retirement of legendary fast bowler James Anderson. Anderson, one of the most successful bowlers in Test cricket history, retired from Test cricket after England’s thumping victory in the first game, signing off on a stunning note.
Anderson had been a cornerstone of England's bowling attack for nearly two decades. His retirement leaves a significant void in the team, and it will be interesting to see as to how England's bowlers adapt without their veteran leader. Notably, Mark Wood has replaced James Anderson in England’s playing XI for the second Test.
West Indies, on the other hand, will be eager to bounce back from their heavy defeat. They will hope for their strong comeback to challenge Anderson-less England. For West Indies, everything is at stake as a win would keep them alive in the series, while a defeat will rob them of the series. West Indies have also announced their playing XI.
England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Shoaib Bashir
West Indies XI: Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Alick Athanaze, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Mikyle Louis, Kirk Mckenzie, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales
