Morne Morkel named team India’s bowling coach: Reports

Former South African pacer Morne Morkel has been named India’s new bowling coach. Morkel is set to start his stint with team India as bowling coach from September 1. His first assignment will involve India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will start from September 19. As per reports, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has also confirmed Morkel’s appointment. 

With the appointment, Morkel will be joining India’s coaching staff being led by Gautam Gambhir. Morkel and Gambhir have already worked together at the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. 

Morkel carries a lot of experience, having already worked with Pakistan team as their bowling coach during the ODI World Cup last year. After the ODI World Cup, Morkel had stepped down before his contract came to an end. Morne Morkel succeeds Paras Mhambrey as India's bowling coach. During his career with South Africa spanning twelve years, Morkel made his appearances in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs and 44 T20Is.
