New Zealand have been dealt a disturbing blow ahead of the Champions Trophy, with star allrounder Lockie Ferguson ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The pace-allrounder will be replaced by Kyle Jamieson in New Zealand’s champions trophy squad. As for Ferguson, he has been ruled out of the side due to a foot injury.

“We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said.

“Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event.

“We wish him well for his recovery and hope he is back firing soon.”

Following Ferguson’s absence, Kyle Jamieson will return to action in more than a year. Jamieson last played an ODI for New Zealand back in September 2023.

New Zealand squad: Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Kane Williamson, Will Young
