England batter Harry Brook has made headlines ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, announcing his decision to withdraw from the tournament just days before its much-anticipated start. Brook was scheduled to play for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of IPL.

His participation was expected to bolster DC’s batting lineup and consolidate their chances of securing the title. This is for the second straight year that Brook has pulled out of the tournament. As a result, he faces a two-year ban from the IPL. Sharing his thoughts, England legend, Moeen Ali said that the punishment (ban) is not harsh.

"It's not [harsh] though, I kinda agree with it. A lot of people do that. A lot People have done it in the past, and then they come back in and end up getting a better financial package or whatever it is. It kinda messes up a lot of things as well at the same time.

"It's messed his team up, him pulling him out. Any team that loses Harry Brook is messed up a bit, and they've got to now rejig everything and stuff like that. Forget him for a second, if you do pull out, the rule is you get a ban, unless it's a family reason or injury. If it's injury, it's different. But I think if you just pull out, then it's… I kinda agree with it,”

“He’s a top player. They’ve probably picked the team around him, and then all of a sudden, you’re pulling out,” Moeen said.

The upcoming edition of IPL will begin on March 22 and Delhi Capitals will start their campaign on March 24 by taking on Lucknow Super Giants at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
