Parag’s masterclass knock in vain as KKR thrash RR

In a must-win clash, Kolkata Knight Riders delivered an amazing performance to defeat Rajasthan Royals by 1 run on Sunday at Eden Gardens, keeping their playoff hopes alive in the ongoing Indian Premier League. The high-octane battle witnessed fierce hitting and a valiant solo effort from Riyan Parag that ultimately went in vain.
Batting first after winning the toss, KKR posted an imposing total of 206/4 in 20 overs. They were powered to a big total by power hitter Andre Russell, who smashed a blistering 57 off just 25 balls, displaying his trademark explosive style. Russell's innings was laced with six towering sixes and four crucial boundaries. Supporting roles came from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) and Ajinkya Rahane (30).
Chasing the target, Rajasthan got off to a dismal start. Their top three batters fell cheaply, derailing the chase early. However, Riyan Parag stepped up with an extraordinary knock of 95 off just 45 deliveries, single-handedly resurrecting RR’s innings. His innings was a masterclass as he smashed KKR bowlers to all parts of the ground.
But Parag’s dismissal in the 18th over came as a turning point because RR's remaining batters crumbled under pressure. However, Shubham Dubey tried his best, scoring 25 off 14, but the RR managed to score 205/8 in 20 overs.
