Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has announced his retirement from professional cricket, bringing an end to a wonderful career spanning over two decades. Chawla played for India in three Tests, 25 ODIs, and seven T20Is. He took 43 wickets across all the formats. And his final appearance for India was back in 2012 during the T20I World Cup in Sri Lanka. Chawla was part of India’s T20I World Cup-winning squads in 2007 and 2011.

“After more than two decades on the field, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful game,” the 36-year-old Chawla wrote on Instagram.

"From representing India at the highest level to being part of the victorious 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup squads, every moment in this incredible journey has been nothing short of a blessing. These memories will forever remain etched in my heart. Though I step away from the crease, cricket will always live with me, I now look forward to embarking on a new journey, carrying the lessons and spirit of this beautiful game."

Chawla also enjoyed a fruitful IPL career, appearing in 192 IPL games. Representing four franchises – Punjab Kings (PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) – Chawla claimed 192 wickets in the IPL. He went unsold at the IPL mega auction last year.
