ENG vs IND 5th Test: India crush England to draw series 2-2

India delivered a stunning performance in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval on Monday, pulling off a six-run win to draw the series 2-2. Staging a remarkable fightback, India dismissed England’s four batters for (28) to clinch a memorable win. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were the architects of India's unimaginable win, nabbing five and four wickets, respectively, to bundle England out for 367. Now, with England crashing to a comprehensive defeat, India finish their tour on a positive note. The visitors bounced back from earlier setbacks with a display of grit, tenacity, and sheer skill, bringing a memorable end to one of the most hard-fought bilateral series.
On day five, England had needed (35) runs to win the fifth match and the series, but Mohammed Siraj’s strangling spell made the task highly difficult for the hosts. He took three wickets on day five. On top of that, England were frustrated by lanky bowler Prasidh Krishna, who remained absolutely brilliant in helping India decimate high-flying England.
Chasing a target of (374), England batters Harry Brook and Joe Root forged a splendid fourth-wicket partnership of (195) to put England closer to clinching a record-breaking win. However, their departure sparked England’s collapse, with other batters not living up to the task. England could never recover from this jolt. Brook was gone for (111), falling to Akash Deep, while Root departed for (105) after being caught behind off Prasidh Krishna. England bowler Gus Atkinson (17) kept the side in the chase, playing some courageous shots, but England were never able to gain the momentum with Indian bowlers putting relentless pressure.
Earlier, India had scored (224) in their first innings after being asked to bat. In reply, England had posted (247), taking a 33-run lead. India, in their second innings, had put out (396) with the help of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who smashed a superb 118-run knock. Nightwatchman Akash Deep scored his maiden half-century, while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar belted out (53) runs each.
