England pacer Chris Woakes has shared a positive update on his recovery from a dislocated shoulder suffered during the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval. The positive update is a good sign for England, who are gearing up for the high-octane Ashes series in Australia later this year.

“Certainly good news for me. That's the best way to look at it. Obviously out of the sling and feel like I can move it a lot better now which is good two weeks down the line,” Woakes told Sky Sports on the sidelines of The Hundred.

With the Ashes approaching fast, Woakes has voiced his preference for rehabilitation over surgery in hopes of being fit in time.

“Going to try and (stay) focused on the rehab and get it as strong as possible. Ideally not for surgery for now but we'll see how that goes and hopefully we can get it nice and strong again," he said.

Meanwhile, the injury, which he sustained during the fifth Test of Anderson Tendulkar Trophy, had forced him out of bowling for the remainder of the match. Still, he returned to the crease on the final day, walking out at No. 11 with his arm in a sling. Despite all the efforts, England had lost the game by six runs.
