Gudakesh Motie's sharp spell leads Amazon Warriors to CPL 2025 final

Guyana Amazon Warriors secured their spot in the final of CPL 2025 after a tremendous 14-run victory over the St. Lucia Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday at Providence Stadium, Guyana. The match turned out to be a high-octane affair, with Gudakesh Motie chipping in with four wickets to cripple the St. Lucia Kings' chase. Both teams had been in exceptional form throughout the tournament, making their way to the crucial Qualifier 1 with impressive performances in the league stage, but it was the Amazon Warriors who gained the upper hand in Qualifier 1.
After being asked to bat, Guyana Amazon Warriors' opening pair, led by captain Ben McDermott, got off to a blistering start. McDermott, in particular, was in sublime form, playing with confidence and hitting five fours and one six. However, their middle order didn't live up to the expectations, faltering when they were needed most. Meanwhile, Shai Hope intervened with a classy 32-run knock to release the mounting pressure. And the key moment in the innings came when Romario Shepherd slammed a quickfire 21 off 8 deliveries to lead Warriors to a competitive total of 157. Romario Shepherd's fiery assault played a vital role in sending Warriors into the final.
Chasing 158 to secure their place in the final, St. Lucia Kings had to give a strong response, but they were off to a distressing start, losing their openers Tim Seifert and Johnson Charles for one run each. Each of their top-order batters struggled against the disciplined and energetic Amazon Warriors' bowling attack, spearheaded by Gudakesh Motie. He tore through Kings' solid batting lineup. The crucial moment was witnessed when Gudakesh Motie struck with a double-wicket seventh over where he took out Chase and Tim David off successive deliveries.
Khary Pierre and Tymal Mills tried to rebuild, smashing 50 and 30, respectively, but the pressure from Warriors didn't allow St. Lucia to get over the line, bowling them out for 143 in 19.1 overs. Despite the loss, Saint Lucia Kings will get another opportunity in Qualifier 2 to book their place in the final. In the Qualifier 2, they will face Trinbago Knight Riders on September 20.
