England all‑rounder Chris Woakes announces retirement from International Cricket

Chris Woakes has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, drawing the curtain on a 15‑year career. Woakes’ decision to step away from international duties comes after a summer marred by injuries. Recently, in the Test series against India, he dislocated his shoulder while fielding—an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the match.
“The moment has come and I’ve decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket,” said Woakes in a statement on Monday.
“Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams.
“Representing England, wearing the Three Lions, and sharing the field with teammates over the last 15 years, many of whom have become lifelong friends, are things I’ll look back on with the greatest pride.”
Woakes made 62 Test appearances, in which he claimed 192 wickets. And in the white-ball formats, he played 155 matches across ODIs and T20Is, taking 204 wickets. He was a key contributor to England’s 2019 ODI World Cup triumph and the 2022 T20 World Cup victory. Woakes recently also missed out on selection for England's upcoming Ashes series in Australia as he continued to recover from a dislocated shoulder.
