In a crushing blow to West Indies, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against India, scheduled to begin this week. The decision comes after medical examinations revealed a lower‑back issue, which compelled the management to rule him out of the series.

According to a statement by Cricket West Indies (CWI), Joseph complained of discomfort, prompting a scan that showed degeneration in the previously healed region of his lower back. West Indies have now called up left-arm seamer Jediah Blades to replace Joseph.

Meanwhile, as per a CWI release, Jason Holder, who is currently with the West Indies side for a three-match T20I series against UAE in Nepal, refused to be Joseph's replacement, citing a planned medical procedure. The first Test between India and West Indies will begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad.
