England announce 12-member squad for first Test against New Zealand

England have announced a 12-member squad for the opening Test of their three-match series against New Zealand, with Shoaib Bashir making his comeback. Bashir has been recalled as England’s preferred spin option after missing the entire Ashes series against Australia.
The squad, which will be led by Ben Stokes, also features the return of fast bowler Ollie Robinson, while uncapped players Emilio Gay and Sonny Baker have earned places in the group and are in contention to make their Test debuts at Lord’s. Robinson’s return is another notable development.
The Sussex seamer has not featured in a Test match since February 2024. England’s batting unit remains solid with the likes of senior stars Joe Root and Harry Brook, with Ben Duckett continuing at the top of the order. Jacob Bethell has recovered from injury concerns and is available for selection.
