Women’s World Cup 2025: Australia aim to extend dominance as Bangladesh look to upset the odds

In match 17 of the Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled to be played in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, defending champions Australia are getting ready to take on a spirited Bangladesh side. Riding the momentum of a record-breaking chase against India, Australia will be looking to strengthen their dominance, while Bangladesh will be eager to deliver a complete performance.
Australia's campaign so far has been extraordinarily dominant. After securing comfortable wins over Pakistan and New Zealand, the six-time champions delivered a historic performance against hosts India, successfully chasing down a mammoth 331, the highest run-chase ever in Women’s ODI history. Alyssa Healy was at the heart of that monumental effort, anchoring the innings with a stunning 142-run knock. She was well supported by Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner, both of whom scored 47* and 45, respectively. With three wins on the bounce, Australia look in ominous form heading into Visakhapatnam.
Bangladesh’s campaign might not yet be laden with victories, but it has certainly earned them respect. They began their campaign by toppling Pakistan, delivering a powerful performance. Since then, they’ve given a pretty close fight to England and South Africa. Captain Nigar Sultana, Sobhana Mostary and Sharmin Akhter have brought much-needed stability with the bat, while Fahima Khatun, Maroofa Akter have been suberb with the ball. Overall, Bangladesh have shown they can challenge top-tier sides, but it remains to be seen whether they can overpower Australia.
