Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the national team's withdrawal from the upcoming tri-nation cricket series scheduled for next month in Pakistan. The decision comes in the wake of a devastating cross-border attack in the Urgun district of Afghanistan, which claimed multiple lives, including three local cricketers.

The ACB confirmed the development in an official statement, expressing profound grief over the incident. The tri-series, which involved Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, was scheduled to be played between November 17-29 in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

"In response of this tragic incident and as a gesture of respect to the victims, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to withdraw from participating in the upcoming Tri-Nation T20I Series involving Pakistan, scheduled to be played in late November," ACB said in a statement.

"The Afghanistan Cricket Board expresses its deepest sorrow and grief over the tragic martyrdom of the brave cricketers from Urgun District in Paktika Province, who were targetted this evening in a cowardly attack carried out by the Pakistani regime," it said.

Notably, tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been rising since October 11. And the upcoming assignment would have been the second tri-series involving Afghanistan and Pakistan this year, following their meeting in August in UAE, who were the host nation.
