Varun Chakravarthy takes the helm of Tamil Nadu for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Varun Chakravarthy is ready to step into a new leadership role ahead of the 2025-26 edition of the domestic T20 tournament, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The Tamil Nadu cricket team announced that Varun has been appointed the captain for the 2025-26 SMAT, which begins on 26 November 2025.

Narayan Jagadeesan has been named the vice-captain of the side. This marks Varun’s first captaincy assignment at any level. His recent performances have been highly impressive, playing a handy role for the India team in the T20I series win in Australia, picking up five wickets across three matches. Varun has replaced M Shahrukh Khan at the helm. Tamil Nadu will begin their campaign against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad.
