In what comes as a huge relief for England ahead of the highly anticipated Ashes, fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of a serious hamstring injury. However, as a precautionary measure, he will not take the field on the final day of England’s sole warm-up fixture against the England Lions at Lilac Hill in Perth.

"Following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any concerns regarding his left hamstring," the ECB said in a statement.

"Wood will continue to train as planned in the build-up to the first Test in Perth," the ECB added.

On Friday, England were handed a huge concern when Wood reported stiffness in his left hamstring after delivering two four-over spells to open the three-day match. He left the field during the second session, midway through his second spell, prompting immediate medical assessment. He was later sent for scans that revealed no significant injury.
