Daryl Mitchell creates history, claims the top spot in ICC's ODI batting rankings

In a massive moment, New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell has risen to the top of the ICC ODI rankings for batters. His ascension to the top marks a historic milestone, as Mitchell is only the second New Zealander ever to hold that position. The first was Glenn Turner, back in 1979.
In claiming the top spot, Daryl Mitchell dethroned India's Rohit Sharma, who occupied the top position for a brief period. Rohit’s brief reign as world No. 1 lasted only 22 days. Mitchell currently has 782 rating points, one more than Rohit Sharma.
Following Mitchell's rise, India's Rohit Sharma is now sitting at the no. 2 spot, with Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran sitting behind him. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli complete the top five, as Pakistan's Babar Azam and Ireland's Harry Tector occupy the next two places.
Mitchell’s success was powered by a spectacular performance against the West Indies in the first ODI, where he blazed his seventh ODI century. In that innings, he scored 119 off 118 balls, a knock that earned him the Player of the Match and helped secure a narrow seven-run victory for New Zealand.
