BPL auction: Mohammad Naim emerges as the most expensive player

Mohammad Naim made history on Sunday as he became the only player to fetch more than BDT 1 crore (approximately USD 88,000) at the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) auction, with Chittagong Royals securing the star batter for the upcoming season. Notably, it was the first BPL auction since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2012.
Naim, who topped the run-scoring charts in last year’s BPL with 511 runs at a strike rate of 143.94, was also the first player to go under the hammer. His breakout performance in the previous season clearly positioned him as one of the most sought-after domestic talents. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy also drew significant attention. Towhid Hridoy was acquired for USD 73,600, while Litton Das secured a deal worth USD 56,000. Both were snapped up by Rangpur Riders.
Among overseas players, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka was the most expensive pick, signing with Dhaka Capitals for USD 55,000. Meanwhile, seasoned campaigners Angelo Mathews and Niroshan Dickwella were both sold at their category A base price of USD 35,000, joining Chittagong Royals and Sylhet Titans respectively. The BPL, which is scheduled to be played from December 26 to January 23, will see six teams compete in the tournament. The six teams are Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Capitals, Rajshahi Warriors, Noakhali Express, Sylhet Titans and Chittagong Royals.
