IPL 2026 Auction: Cameron Green breaks the record for the most expensive overseas purchase

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after becoming the most expensive overseas player ever at the auction on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. In a high-voltage bidding battle, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outlasted Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure Green’s services for a staggering ₹25.20 crore. With this record-breaking deal, Green surpassed the previous benchmark set by his compatriot Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for ₹24.75 crore ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Green also became the third-most expensive player in IPL history.
Overall, Green has been a promising star in the IPL, with 707 runs at a strike rate of 153.69 across two seasons with Mumbai Indians in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024. He also has 16 wickets to his name. As of now, Green is set to play for Australia at Adelaide Oval in the third Ashes Test, starting on Wednesday.
