AUS vs ENG, 4th Test: Australia carry 46-run lead following a turbulent day

The Boxing Day Test at the MCG witnessed a chaotic opening day, with Australia closing the day with a 46-run lead at stumps after 20 wickets fell on day one of the exciting showdown. England, in reply to Australia's first innings total of 152, could only gather 110 runs. Meanwhile, a remarkable performance from Michael Neser and Scott Boland at the crease stole the spotlight.
Michael Neser made a sparkling return to Australia's playing XI, top-scoring with 35 runs in Australia's small total of 152. His much-needed innings helped Australia avoid total collapse. Not only with the bat, but also with the ball, Neser made his mark, taking 4 wickets for 45 runs from 10 overs. His tally of wickets included the key wicket of England captain Ben Stokes.
On the other hand, Scott Boland served as a nightwatchman after Australia were bowled out for 152. Boland was tasked with blocking out an over to begin Australia’s second innings. Travis Head stood at the non-striker’s end without ever facing a delivery. At stumps on day one, Australia were 4/0 in their second innings, having a 46-run lead.
Earlier, England’s Josh Tongue was the standout bowler of the day, claiming 5 wickets for 45 runs from 11.2 overs to restrict Australia from piling up a big first innings total after Ben Stokes asked Australia to bat. England replying to Australia's modest total appeared timid in their efforts, with the top order making no significant contribution. However, there was a little defiance from Harry Brook, who scored 41 off 34, but the visitors couldn't tackle Australian bowlers.
