Harry Brook apologises after nightclub altercation
England’s disappointing end to the Ashes series has been compounded by the emergence of a controversial off-field incident involving vice-captain Harry Brook, which came to light just hours after the team slumped to a crushing 4–1 defeat in the fifth Test.
According to a report by The UK Telegraph, Brook was placed on a final warning and handed the maximum fine following an altercation with a nightclub bouncer on the eve of England's third ODI match in New Zealand last October. Meanwhile, Brook has apologised for his conduct.
"I want to apologise for my actions. I fully accept that my behaviour was wrong and brought embarrassment to both myself and the England team. Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my team-mates, coaches and supporters. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country,” Brook said in a statement.
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
An ECB statement said, "The player involved has apologised and acknowledged their conduct fell below expectations on this occasion."
In the third ODI, Brook had managed only 6 runs as New Zealand secured a two-wicket win to complete a 3-0 series sweep.
