Defending champions India have been dealt a major injury scare just days ahead of the start of their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, which begins against the USA at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on February 7. The concern arose during India’s only warm-up match of the tournament against South Africa, played at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday, with fast bowler Harshit Rana leaving the field prematurely after appearing uncomfortable during his spell.

Rana managed to bowl only one over, leaking 16 runs, but looked in distress throughout. Notably, he twice pulled out of his run-up before finally walking off, clutching his knee. However, Rana’s latest setback has added to the team’s growing list of fitness worries ahead of the marquee tournament.

Rana now joins all-rounder Washington Sundar and Tilak Varma on the injury watchlist. Varma, meanwhile, returned to action during India's warm-up game, firing 45 off 19. Nevertheless, as of now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not provided any official statement regarding Rana’s injury.
