"He doesn't look good": Harshit Rana remains in doubt for T20 World Cup

Injury clouds are lingering over Harshit Rana's availability for the T20 World Cup 2026 after he picked up a niggle during the warm-up game against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4. He had left the field after appearing uncomfortable during his spell, managing to bowl only one over and conceding 16 runs. Meanwhile, addressing the press conference on the eve of India's first game of the T20 World Cup on Saturday, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav asserted that Rana is not ruled out yet, but "he doesn't look good".
"He has not been ruled out yet. But he wasn't looking good after the warm-up game. He's being assessed by the physios. But I think today we'll know what's going to happen. But he doesn't look good; it's not that great," Yadav said.
Lately, Rana has been a key figure in the Indian setup, performing up to the expectations in both the bowling and batting departments. But, according to Surya, Harshit's unavailability will surely be a big blow; they have other players to make up the right combinations.
"Don't worry, we have 11 players for tomorrow. But it's a big blow, obviously, because when you make a squad of 15 players, you make it with a lot of combinations in mind. So we made it with the same thought. And if he is not available for us going forward, then we will set other combinations. But we have enough players (and) enough combinations, which we can make against all the teams for this tournament. But if we miss him, we will definitely miss him," he said.
