India’s senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami made a thunderous statement with the bat in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals, producing a breathtaking half-century, smashing 53 runs from 33 balls to propel his side to a massive first-innings total of 629 on Monday.

Playing for Bengal against Andhra Pradesh, Shami, whose last appearance for India was in the final of the Champions Trophy last year, blazed seven boundaries and three sixes in his entertaining knock.

He walked out to bat deep into Day 4, entering the middle after Akash Deep was dismissed in the 192nd over. Bengal were already in a commanding position, and Shami wasted no time in unleashing his assault, opening his account with a crisp boundary off only the second delivery he faced.

The highlight of his assault came in the 197th over, when he struck four consecutive fours. Meanwhile, Shami's cameo came to an end in the 200th over, when Shaikh Rasheed struck to send Shami back.
