Riyan Parag to captain Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026: Report

The Rajasthan Royals are set to usher in a new era ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season, with Riyan Parag set to take over the captaincy, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. The development arises following the departure of long-time skipper Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings in a high-profile trade deal.
In return, RR secured the services of two incredible all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Parag, meanwhile, is no stranger to responsibility, having led the team during the last season in the absence of Sanju Samson. During the previous season, when Samson was sidelined for eight matches due to injury, Parag served as the stand-in captain. According to the report, head coach Kumar Sangakkara held discussions with multiple candidates before finalising Parag as his preferred choice.
Under Parag, who since making his debut back in 2019 has played all seven seasons for RR, the franchise would hope to bounce back from a difficult 2025 season. Talking about the previous season, RR endured a difficult season, finishing second from bottom with only four wins in 14 matches.
