Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup campaign has suffered a significant setback with fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana being ruled out of the tournament due to a calf strain. The injury occurred during Sri Lanka’s group-stage encounter against Australia in Pallekele. Pathirana pulled up after delivering his fourth ball of a spell, immediately clutching his left calf in visible discomfort.

Meanwhile, the ICC's Event Technical Committee has approved Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Pathirana. Scans conducted after the injury confirmed that the tear will require several weeks of rehabilitation, ending Pathirana’s participation in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Notably, Sri Lanka have already progressed to the Super 8, winning all three of their group-stage matches. As for Madushanka, he has featured in 15 T20Is since making his debut in 2022, taking 15 wickets at an economy rate of 9.75.
