Shai Hope stars as upbeat West Indies thrash Italy

West Indies registered a commanding 42-run victory over Italy in their T20 World Cup Group C clash on Thursday in Kolkata. After being asked to bat first, West Indies posted a competitive total of 165/6 following a commanding innings from Shai Hope. The right-hander played with authority, cracking 75 runs in a knock that helped West Indies fight back in the game. Roston Chase and Sherfane Rutherford chipped in with 24 runs apiece. Notably, Sherfane Rutherford remained unbeaten.
In their chase, Italy struggled to build partnerships. Despite giving brief resistance, they were unable to build continued momentum against West Indies bowling attack. Benjamin Manenti top-scored for Italy, scoring 26 runs. J Smuts fired 24 runs. Meanwhile, with wickets falling at regular intervals, Italy were bowled out for 123 in 18 overs.
Although Italy have already been eliminated from the tournament, their campaign has not been without positives. They can take immense pride from their remarkable 10-wicket victory over Nepal earlier in the competition. For West Indies, the win further cements their dominance in Group C, having already secured qualification to the Super Eight stage.
