Ahead of the IPL 2026, five-time Indian Premier League champions Chennai Super Kings have appointed former England wicketkeeper James Foster as their new fielding coach. Foster will operate under the leadership of Stephen Fleming, who serves as the head coach of the team. Foster represented England as a wicketkeeper between 2001 and 2009, playing 7 Tests, 12 ODIs, and five T20Is.

His most recent success came earlier this year when he guided Desert Vipers to the title in the International League T20 as head coach in January. Foster has also been appointed assistant coach of Birmingham Phoenix for the upcoming season of The Hundred. Previously in the IPL, Foster has closely worked with Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Say Yellove to our fielding coach James Foster! Former England wicketkeeper and a coach with experience across teams worldwide, he now kicks off this new chapter with the Pride," CSK stated in a social media post.

At CSK, Foster will join an experienced coaching staff featuring batting coach Michael Hussey and bowling coach Eric Simons. Among those he will closely work with is legendary former India captain MS Dhoni, who continues to be a key figure for the franchise. Meanwhile, CSK will begin their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign on March 30 when they face Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
