Jos Buttler eyes another England run despite underwhelming T20 World Cup

Jos Buttler has expressed optimism about extending his international career following England’s disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup, while also admitting the uncertainty surrounding his future in the national side. England’s semi-final defeat to India has sparked reflection within the squad, and for Buttler, it has raised personal questions about form. Buttler endured a difficult tournament, scoring 87 runs across eight innings. His struggles are part of a broader dip in form, with only one half-century recorded in his last four ICC events.

Buttler, as of now, remains under contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board for another 18 months and is hoping to push for selection in England's upcoming white-ball series against India. However, Buttler himself has openly admitted that his place in the squad for the upcoming home series against India in July is far from secure.

"I hope so. I don't know. Obviously, I had a poor tournament, which is disappointing, but I've been playing some of the best cricket of my [career] in recent years, so hopefully I can get back to playing my best. I certainly have ambitions [to continue playing for England] but no longer being a captain, I'm not a selector and whatever, so what will be will be. Yeah, we will see,” Buttler said on his podcast, For the Love of Cricket.

Following the T20I World Cup, Buttler stepped away from the game mentally. He spent a week in the mountains of France with his family, using the time to disconnect from the pressures of international cricket. The break, according to Buttler, has given him space to reset after a demanding and underwhelming campaign.

"I couldn't have been further away from cricket, which for me at the time was just perfect. It's exactly what I needed. It was really refreshing - I really enjoyed it, a complete sort of release. And slowly but surely, I'd say at the start of this week, [I am] just starting to reflect a bit and have a few thoughts about what's important to me and my cricket, and why it probably didn't go quite as I would've liked,” Buttler said
