A storm of controversy flared up during a high-stakes clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings on Sunday in Lahore when an alleged ball-tampering incident put Qalandars into controversy. The incident came to light when the second innings neared its conclusion, with the match hanging in the balance. Karachi Kings needed 14 runs from the final over, with fast bowler Haris Rauf set to deliver under pressure.

Just before the over began, there was a brief interaction involving captain Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman. There were seen handling the ball in quick succession. Upon noticing it, on-field umpire Faisal Afridi observed the exchange and intervened, requesting the ball for inspection.

After an extended examination, during which Afridi consulted with the square-leg umpire, Sharfuddoula, the umpires said that the ball had been deliberately altered, which was a violation of cricket’s strict regulations. As a result, Karachi Kings were awarded five penalty runs. The ball was also replaced immediately.

“Actually, I don't know about this, and we'll see if it's there in the camera and discuss what it is. Actually, five runs taken and we can't do anything. Like, you can't say," Shaheen Afridi said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

With five runs handed to Karachi, their target was reduced from 14 runs to nine in the final over, and they secured a four-wicket win with three balls to spare.
