IPL 2026: Abhishek Sharma punished for breaching Code of Conduct

Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has been penalised by the Indian Premier League (IPL) following SRH's victory over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday. The explosive has been handed one demerit point and fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL's Code of Conduct. Abhishek has also been handed one demerit point.
The incident occurred during the high-intensity clash when Abhishek was found using language deemed inappropriate and audible during the broadcast. His actions violated Article 2.3 of the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct. This clause addresses the use of offensive, obscene, or profane language.
“He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the League said in a statement.
Talking about his innings, Abhishek smashed a brilliant 48 off 21, featuring four boundaries and four sixes to guide the side to a big total of 226/8 in 20 overs.
