Wanindu Hasaranga out of IPL 2026, replacement to be named soon

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are preparing to make a key adjustment to their squad after a setback involving Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been ruled out of the IPL 2026. The franchise’s director of cricket Tom Moody confirmed that a replacement for Hasaranga will be announced soon, with the decision expected within the next 24 to 48 hours.
"We are preparing for the fact that he isn't going to be able to join us. We are looking at replacements that should be announced in 24-48 hours,” Tom Moody said during LSG's match against KKR on Thursday.
Notably, Hasaranga has been sidelined since suffering a left hamstring tear during the Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year. The injury occurred in Sri Lanka’s opening match of the tournament in February, ruling him out of competitive cricket since then. He also didn't join the LSG camp.
LSG had secured Hasaranga’s services for ₹2 crore during the most recent IPL auction, strengthening their spin department. However, his ongoing recovery did not allow him to link up the team. Before his move to Lucknow, Hasaranga had stints with Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he performed brilliantly.
