KKR overcome RR to claim hard-fought win
Kolkata Knight Riders finally broke their losing streak in the Indian Premier League 2026 season with a hard-fought four-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 156, Kolkata were put on the backfoot early on as their top order failed to make an impact. However, the pressure was eased by a composed partnership between Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy, who scored (53*) and (29*), respectively.
Their efforts helped KKR cross the finish line with two balls to spare. Notably, contributions from Cameron Green (27) and Rovman Powell (23) stabilised the chase in the middle phase. Earlier Rajasthan, opting to bat, started strongly. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (39) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (46) built a lively partnership, racing to 81 without loss in over eight overs. Their aggressive approach gave Rajasthan early control of the match.
Meanwhile, KKR's Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine tightened the scoring and dismantled the middle order. Chakaravarthy finished with impressive figures of 3/14, while Narine returned with 2/26. Their efforts slowed Rajasthan’s progress significantly, reducing them to 155/9 in 20 overs.
