IPL 2026: MI steamroll GT in one-sided clash

Mumbai Indians stormed past Gujarat Titans with an incredible 99-run victory, breaking their frustrating four-game losing run on Monday in Ahmedabad. Asked to bat, Mumbai registered a shaky start. Early strikes from Kagiso Rabada put them under pressure during the powerplay. However, a stunning counterattack by Tilak Varma shifted gears, putting MI back in the game.
Varma slammed his maiden IPL century, notching it off 45 balls. During his innings, he fired seven magnificent sixes to knock GT down. Naman Dhir played a crucial knock of 45 runs, stabilising the innings. Their partnership helped MI post 199/5 in 20 overs. Notably, Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 101.
In reply, Gujarat encountered a very bad start. The top order failed to cope with the aggressive bowling from Mumbai. Within the first eight overs, half the side was already back in the pavilion. The powerplay itself proved disastrous, with three key wickets falling cheaply. Jasprit Bumrah struck early, claiming his first wicket of the 2026 season.
GT's stars like Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Glenn Phillips couldn’t make an impact, losing their wickets cheaply. Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as GT were bowled out for 100 in 15.5 overs.
