"I've gone through lots of rough trots": Maxwell after bouncing back to form

Glenn Maxwell made a stunning return to form, playing a match-winning knock in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 to help his side, Hyderabad Kingsmen, book a playoffs spot with a commanding 108-run win over Rawalpindiz on Sunday. Maxwell, showing his trademark aggression, blasted 70 from 37 to fire his side to a formidable total of 244/6 in 20 overs. His innings carried immense significance because Hyderabad had to defeat Rawalpindiz by a big margin to overtake Lahore Qalandars in order to seal a top-four spot. In his innings, Maxwell plundered eight fours and three sixes to make a heavy contribution. Notably, in Maxwell's past four innings of the tournament, he failed miserably, registering low scores. But he found his form when it mattered the most.

"I've gone through lots of rough trots in my whole career. You're not always going to have success; it's not always going to be smooth sailing in this game. You've got to take so many risks. You've got to take the game on and you've got to take on quality bowling as well. So you're going to fail at different times; it's how you bounce back from that failure which determines what sort of character you have," Maxwell said at the press conference.

Heading into this must-win game, Maxwell was under huge pressure following his recent struggles, as his highest score in the past 17 T20 innings reportedly was 39.

"I've been extremely lucky to come over into a really good side. They probably didn't get the results they deserved in the first four games, but the groundwork that Jason Gillespie and Marnus Labuschagne had set for the group was destined to come off at some stage."

"It wasn't like I was playing huge roles. But to see this team's growth was evidence of the direction we were heading in. To put a performance like that today is even more special to get us to the finals. To see the character in the changing room today after the last game [against Islamabad United] went all wrong, nothing really worked for us. To see a lot of things go right for us was a sign of great character," he said.
