Mumbai Indians sign Keshav Maharaj as a replacement for injured Santner

Mumbai Indians have made a change to their squad for IPL 2026, roping in experienced South African spinner Keshav Maharaj as a replacement for Mitchell Santner, who has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury.
Santner had an impressive run, claiming five wickets in four matches while maintaining a respectable economy rate of 8.92.
However, his run was cut short during a match against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium after he picked up the injury while attempting to stop a boundary catch, landing awkwardly and hurting his shoulder. He was later seen in the dressing room with an ice pack, and Mumbai had to use a concussion substitute during the chase.
Meanwhile, Maharaj has huge experience, having featured in multiple leagues, including the Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, England’s Vitality Blast, and South Africa’s SA20. One of his standout recent performances came in the latest SA20 season, where he led the Pretoria Capitals to the final. He finished the tournament with 12 wickets in 12 matches. Overall, Maharaj has taken 191 wickets across 208 T20 innings.
