England have been dealt a massive setback ahead of their upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt ruled out due to a minor tear in her left calf. The decision has been described by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as a “precautionary measure".

Her injury comes at an inconvenient time, as England are building momentum toward a home T20 World Cup scheduled for June. Though the ODI series is an important assignment, the ECB has emphasised that her long-term fitness is the priority. Her condition will be reassessed ahead of the T20I leg of the New Zealand tour, which is expected to play a key role in England’s World Cup preparations.

Meanwhile, she sustained the injury during her recent appearance for The Blaze in a midweek Metro Bank Cup fixture against Warwickshire. In her absence, vice-captain Charlie Dean will lead the side during New Zealand ODIs.
