Sanju Samson urged to take Virat Kohli route

Sanju Samson, enjoying a red-hot form, once again showed his amazing hitting prowess, guiding Chennai Super Kings to an easy eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He smacked an unbeaten 87 to launch the side to victory with 15 balls to spare as he remains a vital pillar for Chennai Super Kings.
Now donning CSK colors, the wicketkeeper-batter has found a new rhythm after encountering a rough start, delivering consistent and impactful performances that have propelled him into the race for the Orange Cap.
In 10 matches, Samson has racked up 402 runs at a strike rate of 167. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has given Samson a piece of advice. Admitting Samson’s purple patch, Manjrekar asserted that sustaining such performance over a longer period requires greater attention to physical conditioning. Manjrekar, maintaining that Samson is not at his physical peak, said that Samson needs to take Virat Kohli route to sustain achievement.
“I'm saying that about Sanju Samson as well, who's also not a 25-year-old because he's hit the peak of his achievements, just to sustain it. He could also do the same thing, because I see him also not being in peak physical condition,” Manjrekar said on Sportstar's Insight Edge Podcast.
“When you have a great example, like Virat Kohli, who has had such a long career. You know, just because he's given fitness so much importance. He's had tremendous skills, but he's made sure that the body doesn't let him down. Because that's the one you can control,” he added.
With their rollicking victory against DC, CSK have now kept their hopes alive for the playoffs. They will next face LSG on May 10 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
